Man arrested for allegedly stealing a firearm from a local gun store

Jimmy Williams Jr., 44 of Desert Hot Springs was arrested on Wednesday for his suspected role in a burglary at a gun store in an unincorporated area of Palm Desert.

The theft occurred back on May 23. Surveillance video captured the thief reach into a gun display case that was inadvertently left slightly open and take a Colt .38 Special Revolver.

The Gang Task Force identified Williams Jr. as the suspect in the theft. Williams Jr. was arrested without incident by Gang Task Force Officers during the service of a search warrant at a residence in the 66000 block of First Street in Desert Hot Springs Wednesday at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The Gang Task Force reported finding methamphetamine, .38 Special ammunition and a holster but did not recover the stolen firearm.

Williams Jr. was charged with Burglary, Grand Theft and Possession of Methamphetamine. He was booked in Indio jail, where he was released later that day on $0 bail.
