Arrest made in deadly 2022 hit-and-run crash in Palm Springs

Palm Springs arrested a suspect in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash in July 2022.

The suspect, identified as Cody Jay Hamilton, 28 of Cathedral City, was arrested on Thursday at around 2:00 p.m. in Cathedral City. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday on charges of hit-and-run resulting in death.

The crash happened on July 29, 2022 at the intersection of E Ramon Road and El Placer.

According to police, a pedestrian was struck by an unidentified vehicle. The pedestrian's identity was not released by authorities.

Investigators were able to recover parts at the collision site and video surveillance footage provided the suspect vehicle description, as a dark-colored sedan. Palm Springs called on the community to help gather more information on this crash.

"The response from the community was remarkable and a tip was provided that helped the investigators with the case. Subsequently, the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was found at a residence in Cathedral City," police wrote in a news release.

The Riverside County District Attorney's office filed charges against Hamilton on July 25. An arrest warrant was issued on Aug. 10 and Hamilton was arrested on Thursday.
