Church faculty member suspected of sexually assaulting a child in Banning

Police arrested a church faculty member in Banning after accusations of sexually assaulting a child.

The crime was reported on Tuesday at around 3:45 p.m.

Police said officers were called to the Mountain Avenue Baptist Church in Banning. Authorities said a church employee reported criminal acts against a child that occurred on the church property.

An investigation led detectives to arrest a 26-year-old church faculty member. The man was booked into the Smith Correctional Facility, where he remains held on $1 million bail.

The suspect faces charges of sexual battery and lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. He has not been officially charged but he is expected to be arraigned on Friday.

The Banning Police Department is asking anyone who may have additional information in regard to this case to contact the Banning Police Department Detective Bureau at (951) 922-3170.
