Jeffrey Bernstein sworn in as new mayor of Palm Springs
Palm Springs swore in its new mayor on Thursday. Jeffrey Bernstein is the city's 25th mayor.
The council rotates the position of mayor yearly. Ron DeHarte is the city's new Mayor Pro Tem, meaning he will be mayor next December.
Bernstein, was elected to the council last November and represents district two.
He spoke with News Channel 3's Peter Daut about what he says are the biggest issues in Palm Springs.
"Housing and the homeless problem is one of my primary issues, and in the next 18 months, we will open three affordable housing projects and a navigation center," Bernstein said.
Bernstein added, "Our small business community, I'm a small business owner. It's something I think is key to Palm Springs' identity. Next year, we'll have a chief economic development officer, a new business liaison, we'll be part of the Visit Greater Palm Springs economic initiative, and we'll have our own economic development committee."
