In light of proposed federal budget cuts that may eliminate funding for HIV prevention, organizers of the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards say this year's event is especially important.

With public funding in jeopardy, DAP Health is turning to private donors.

This Saturday will mark the 31st year of "The Chase," which is the organization's biggest annual fundraiser.

Thousands of people are expected to attend. Proceeds go to support health equity and care for all.

"If you've never been to a gala, and you're watching the news and feeling a little helpless about the state of our world and people in our country who are being impacted by choices made by elected officials, and you want to make an impact, you can vote with your dollars and support DAP Health by attending the Chase," said Steve Henke, Chief of Brand Marketing for DAP Health.

Henke added, "Many of our patients live in poverty, many of our patients receive Medi-Cal benefits. So one of the biggest challenges right now is the uncertainty of funding, and funding cuts that might be happening at a federal level that could impact local access to healthcare."
