12-3-62-10-CRASH-5

Police and firefighters were on the scene of a head-on collision at the I-10 Highway 62 interchange Tuesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says the wreck happened at 6:52 a.m. Wreckage from a truck and a sedan were blocking the Interstate 10 eastbound to Highway 62 northbound lanes toward the high desert.

The CHP said both lanes of Highway 62 northbound were blocked and traffic was stopped.

Both northbound Highway 62 traffic lanes were expected to be reopened by 9:30 a.m. once the truck was removed from the roadway, according to police at the scene.

Authorities said a wrong-way driver traveled south on Highway 62 in the northbound lanes slamming head-on into a truck.

There were major injuries reported in one vehicle. Police said neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be involved.

No names had yet been released.
