Local political organizations react to war in Iran

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - The U.S. and Israel's strikes on Iran have caused debate among Democrats and Republicans locally in the Coachella Valley. News Channel 3 spoke with two women's political organizations, the East Valley Republican Women Patriots and the Democratic Women of the Desert.

"It’s tragic. To me it was a it was not a war of necessity," says Amalia Deatzlan, president of Democratic Women of the Desert.

"If a volatile and reckless regime is allowed to have deadly weapons, then that is a huge risk. And that's that is the reason that we're doing this," says Sandra Schulz, vice president of the East Valley Republican Women Patriots.

Both sides expressing concerns over the loss of life. "There's always the risk of unintended consequences. But the job of our leadership is to determine when the risks of not doing it are greater than the risks of doing it. And clearly that's what has happened here," says Schulz.

The death toll has reached over 1,000 in the first four days of the war, with six U.S. service members included. "It's tiring to see and painful that the young die in wars that are created by older people that have sometimes special interests, corporations that are making money out of wars," says Deaztlan.
