Highway 111 reopens in Indio after fatal hit-and-run collision

Highway 111 was closed to traffic eastbound Monday morning just west of from Madison east to Clinton Street, but reopened shortly after 8:00 a.m.

Indio Police say a woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist on Highway 111 just west of Clinton Street earlier Monday morning.

Officers were called to the scene at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to a department spokesman, Ben Guitron.

Authorities had not yet released the woman's name and were still on scene investigating.

Westbound Highway 111 was open to traffic, and the road's eastbound lanes were expected to reopen by approximately 8:10 a.m.

But eastbound motorists could take Fred Waring Drive or Avenue 48 to avoid the congestion and blockage on Highway 111.
