A writer uses Turo to lend out his car for extra money

A rental car company named Turo allows people to rent a car from another person. Folks in the Coachella Valley are utilizing this service to make extra money while they work from home or don't use their cars.

"Choose from hundreds of models you won’t find anywhere else. Pick it up or get it delivered where you want it." - Turo

Resident Michael Antler, an author, takes advantage of this app to make more time for himself to write his novel. Antler says, “I am spending my days writing. My car is sitting in the garage doing nothing. I could write while my car is making me money.” This motivated him to start using Turo.

He says he is able to make more than enough money to pay for his car insurance. He has been able to dedicate his time to his passion of writing instead of getting an hourly job.

He has had a few experiences with the app, most of them a pleasant experience. A big concern for many people is damage. Antler says, “Turo charges a fee. I don’t get 100% of that obviously. Turo takes a certain percentage based on what I chose for my own insurance level protection.” As someone renting out their vehicle you will take photos of your car, mileage, and gas level before it is picked up or taken to the customer.

On this app, you can also find people willing to rent their classic and high-end cars to people. As a car owner, you also have the ability to charge whatever you want for the price of renting your vehicle. “If I want to charge $120 for my vehicle a day I can, if I want to charge $60 I can.”

As for Michael Antler, he is just happy to work on his novel and make some extra money on the side!
