Cal State San Bernardino, Palm Desert is accepting applications for its new hospitality management program.

The Coachella Valley is home to a nearly $8 billion tourism industry thanks to its wide array of destinations, including numerous hotels, private clubs, major entertainment, sporting and film industry events, restaurants and bars, & over 100 renowned golf courses.

The tourism sector sustained 82,460 jobs, or 28 percent, of jobs in the county, according to an economic impact study funded by the Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau.

There is a growing demand for well-educated hospitality professionals in the Coachella Valley as the local industry continues to grow. To help meet the demand, CSUSB Palm Desert is offering a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in hospitality management.

Higher education/certification is needed to advance to higher-paying supervisory and management level positions within the hospitality industry.

“Because of the size of national and international companies in the hospitality industry, companies in the Coachella Valley can offer paid internships, jobs, and most importantly, a career path for these students,” said Lawrence Rose, dean of the CSUSB Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, which will oversee the program.

Dr. Joseph Tormey will serve as director of the program.

The program is set to begin in fall 2020. Applications must be in by November 30, 2019.
