Izzy Ramirez recovering after a successful final brain surgery
Rancho Mirage High School student-athlete Israel "Izzy" Ramirez is one step closer to returning to the football field.
In October, Izzy underwent three emergency surgeries after suffering a serious non-football related brain injury.
Earlier today, doctors completed his fourth and final brain surgery. Doctors replaced a portion of his skull that was previously removed.
His sister told News Channel 3 the surgery went well and he is awake. Now Izzy can start his road to recovery and his quest to return to the football field.
Izzy's sister added that the first thing he wanted after surgery was a burrito.
Izzy told News Channel 3 in November that he is going to start home school at the beginning of next year and hopes to be back at Rancho Mirage High School by the next school year.

He briefly made a triumphant return to the football field to cheer on his teammates during their playoff game. Rancho Mirage didn't get the win but as they said on its Facebook page, "Not the result we wanted...but Izzy is here! Life is good!"
