Update: Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez posted on Facebook Saturday that Bernie Sanders will appear at a campaign rally Monday afternoon at 4:00 in Veterans' Park in Coachella. News Channel 3 emailed the Bernie Sanders campaign seeking confirmation, and we have not yet received a response.

INITIAL REPORT:

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is expected to make an appearance in the Coachella Valley early next week.

Sanders has a planned rally Monday, Dec. 16, at the Rancho Mirage amphitheater, according to his campaign website.

The Vermont senator is the second Democratic presidential candidate to make a stop in the Coachella Valley while on the campaign trail.

Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg appeared at a private event inside Rancho Mirage's Thunderbird Heights last month.

Sanders is a top Democratic presidential candidate listed in multiple national polls, according to FiveThirtyEight. He is also a highly favored candidate in multiple California polls.

The other candidate hopefuls ahead of Sanders in the polls are former vice president Joe Biden and Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren.

The 2020 California presidential primary election is scheduled for March 3.

Sanders remains in a crowded Democratic presidential race that has more than ten candidates still pushing to possibly win the Democratic presidential bid next July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 2020 presidential election is next November.

Sanders' Rancho Mirage stop is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater, 71560 San Jacinto Drive. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and organizers suggest confirming attendance online in advance.
