Splash House poolside festival moves indoors due to danger of historic storm
Splash House, a poolside music festival that brings thousands of people to the desert, will take the party inside on Sunday as tropical storm conditions bear down on Coachella Valley.
Instead of hosting the event at the outdoor pools of Margaritaville, Renaissance and Saguaro hotels in Palm Springs, the organizers have announced they will "take things inside" to the ballrooms at each venue.
The partner hotels are working to arrange later check outs and special rates for extended stays.
Earlier this week, News Channel 3 was in touch with Palm Springs city officials, who said they have been talking to Goldenvoice, which puts on Splash House. The city's emergency manager, Danny DeSelms, said people should expect more traffic with more visitors in town and likely road closures due to flooding.
"As those washes fill, there's really only one way in and one way out of the city, and that's [Highway 111]. So just anticipate traffic and drive safely," said DeSelms. "Be safe and be respectful of other drivers out there because everybody's going to be frustrated at the same time."
At midnight Sunday, major roadways in and out of Palm Springs closed.
The Palm Springs Police Department urges people to stay home and avoid driving during the storm. The City says officers will be positioned at the barricaded roads.
If you do you find yourself driving in the area, here are the alternate routes you can take:
- Highway 111
- Ramon Road
- Dinah Shore Drive
