Tracking congressional and senate races
News Channel 3 is tracking the 25th and 41st Congressional Districts, as well as the Senate races.
Incumbent Representative and Democrat Raul Ruiz leads the contest in the 25th District. Trailing behind are Republican Ian Weeks and Cecil Truman. Also in the race is Indio council member Oscar Ortiz.
Ruiz says he wants to be a problem solver for the 25th District. "Being an emergency physician in the emergency department, we conduct a diagnostic workup," said Ruiz. "We provide recommendations, oversee treatments, and what matters most is improving people's lives. That's the same bipartisan approach I take now as a policymaker, and it's been effective."
In the 41st District, incumbent Republican Ken Calvert and Democrat Will Rollins are in 1st and 2nd place respectively, planning a rematch from the 2022 election.
Calvert stated his intention to address issues related to infrastructure on Gene Autry, the CV rail, and Highway 111. He also aims to make improvements in the development of the new homeless center.
Will Rollins highlighted crime as one of his top priorities. "Let's establish a joint state-federal task force to tackle these smash-and-grabs," said Rollins. "And let's also implement some basic common-sense gun regulations, so that we prevent sheriff's deputies in our county from being killed by individuals who should never have had access to guns in the first place."
In the highly anticipated Senate race, Democrat and US Representative Adam Schiff and former MLB player and Palm Desert resident Steve Garvey are neck and neck. Also running are Democrats Katie Porter and Barbara Lee.
