Massage Envy locations in the desert prepare to re-open after last month’s closures
Two Massage Envy clinics in La Quinta and Palm Desert are set to open on Wednesday, October 23rd after closing last month.
The two clinics were closed after the previous owner cited financial pressures, but a new owner has since taken over.
Mike Kostura is the business owner taking over the franchises. He owns other Massage Envy franchises in the Inland Empire and is excited to bring the Coachella Valley locations back into action.
"They're great clinics. They've been there for, you know, a good ten years plus, a loyal following of dedicated members, and there's definitely a need in the Coachella Valley for wellness care. So [I am] happy to keep the businesses alive," Kostura says.
It's been a whirlwind to get the clinics back to running order.
"It's a scramble where we're getting sheets on the tables, returning 400 voicemails ... so that's been a process. We're getting the therapy schedule ironed out and getting the music playing again and everything ready to go," Kostura says excitedly.
"We're really excited and grateful for the opportunity to, again, be a part of the community and hope to serve our customers there for a long time to come."
Kostura says about 95% of previous employees are returning to work at the reopened locations.
Those employees, like Palm Desert's clinic manager, Linda Jones, are relieved after living through a month of unknowns.
"The period has been somewhat stressful. I mean, income-wise for most of us, of course. But [employees] were all offered their positions back, and most of them have come back," Jones recounts.
Hours at both locations are expected to be shortened by an hour in the coming month as employees continue to clean up and fill schedules. Everything else, though – like memberships, accrued hours, and services – will be the same.
"They should expect the same service, if not better," Jones says with a smile.
