The party never ends: How Splash House is approaching Weekend 2 after injuries during first weekend

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) — What changes are being made to keep festivalgoers safe this coming weekend at Splash House?

That's the question facing organizers, officials, and attendees following an incident at the Palm Springs Air Museum during the festival-sanctioned after-party early Sunday morning.

Palm Springs police say they were notified of the incident at 1:37 a.m. Sunday. Additionally, they said a glass bottle was thrown from the VIP section, injuring nine people. Seven were taken to a local medical facility, while two were treated at the scene.

Despite this incident, Splash House continued with it's scheduled events later Sunday. Organizers are moving forward with the second weekend of the festival.

Glass is listed as a prohibited item on the Splash House website. News Channel 3 reached out to Goldenvoice for comment about the events that transpired and why glass was in the venue, but they did not respond.

The Palm Springs Police Department is meeting with its special events planning team and event promoters to discuss safety protocols ahead of the second weekend. Police officials said their goal is to prevent a repeat of the incident.

“So that's one of the things that we're going to push forward, the idea of getting more security at all locations,” Palm Springs Police Captain Gustavo Araiza said.

Police said the increase will involve additional staffing from both law enforcement and private security.

Representatives for the Palm Springs Air Museum stated that the museum has no operational involvement with Splash House other than renting out its space for the after-party.
