KESQ station group to broadcast Coachella Valley Firebirds games live in 2024

2024 is already shaping up to be a fun year for Coachella Valley Firebirds fans. To share the excitement, News Channel 3 and the KESQ station group are teaming up with the AHL hockey team to televise live hockey games.

Following is the list of games, times, and channels that are planned for broadcast:

  • Wednesday, January 31, 6:30 pm KDFX Fox 11 (changed from February 2)
  • Sunday, February 18, 4:30 pm KCWQ CW 5
  • Saturday, March 23, 5:30 pm KCWQ CW 5
  • Thursday, April 4, 6:30 pm KDFX Fox 11

The broadcasts will be provided by the team and will include a half-hour pre-game show hosted by Gino LaMont and Grant Fuhr. Play-by-play will be called by Firebirds announcer Evan Pivnick.

KCWQ can be seen over the air by antenna on Channel 39.2, on Spectrum channels 5 and 1211 as well as on Direct TV and Dish Network.

KDFX can be seen over the air by antenna on Channel 39.1, on Spectrum channels 11 and 1206, as well as Frontier cable, Direct TV and Dish Network.

Broadcast plans are subject to change. This list is a revised broadcast schedule from the originally announced games.

Exclusive broadcast partnership

Ahead of the 2023-2024 hockey season, The Gulf California Broadcast Company, owners of KESQ News Channel 3, KDFX Fox 11, KCWQ CW 5, and 3 other television and radio stations, announced a renewed partnership with the Coachella Valley Firebirds that will include televised games for viewers in the Coachella Valley.

“We are excited about this partnership and bringing the games to viewers in their homes”, says General Manager Jerry Upham. “The Firebirds certainly have proved that they are popular with fans and this gives them another way to see the games.”
