Happy New Year: Coachella Valley Firebirds dominate 6-1 on the road against the Calgary Wranglers
It's a happy new year for Coachella Valley Firebirds fans. The team is starting 2024 hot. The desert's hometeam is in Calgary celebrating a dominating win over the top team in the AHL Pacific Division, the Calgary Wranglers.
The game ended with the Firebirds victorious, 6-1.
Ales Stezka made 29 saves in the victory that moves Coachella Valley to a 16-10-2-0 record on the season.

The fifth goal for the Birds followed a busy second period where the team scored 3 goals.
Soon into the third period, Andrew Poturalski knocked in a goal to take the team to a 5-1 lead.

With just more than seven minutes left in the game, Gustav Olofsson burst out of the penalty box to assist Ryan Winterton with a goal, bringing the score to 6-1.

The Firebirds and Wranglers will meet on the same ice on Tuesday, for a game at 5:00 p.m. our time.
The New Year's Day game is the first since a loss on Friday night, where the Tucson Roadrunners scored three goals in the first period. They beat the Firebirds 3-1, on Friday, despite the 'birds outshooting the Roadrunners 37-27.

Meanwhile, mascot Fuego is taking a road trip as well. He's supporting NHL team Seattle Kraken. The team is playing in the Winter Classic today.

A fan favorite from the Firebirds' inaugural season, Goalie Joey Daccord, took fans on a lap ahead of the Winter Classic in the video below. Daccord recently tied the longest point streak ever by a Kraken goalkeeper, according to the NHL.
Daccord was awarded MVP trophy after the Winter Classic game today.
