Poor air quality forces multiple local high schools to cancel football games

Many local high school football teams have been forced to cancel their games this week due to poor air quality from three major wildfires burning in Southern California.

As of Thursday, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley have either cancelled or postponed their Week 4 matchups.

Cathedral City's game against Canyon Springs is the only game to be re-scheduled this week. The Lions are 1-1, set to make their home debut on Saturday pending air quality.

  • Canyon Springs at Cathedral City - POSTPONED (Saturday 6pm)
  • Palm Desert at Yucaipa - CANCELLED
  • Twentynine Palms at Rubidoux - CANCELLED
  • Yucca Valley at Granite Hills - CANCELLED

Classes at all schools in Yucca Valley's district were canceled on Wednesday and Thursday due to the air quality. The Trojans are planning to reschedule a game during their BYE week in early October.
