US Open tennis tournament could be moved to Indian Wells, per reports

According to multiple reports, the US Open could be coming to Indian Wells in November.

However, as stated on their website, the tournament seems intent on keeping with the originally scheduled date and venue.

"We understand that there is a great deal of speculation regarding the USTA’s planning for the 2020 US Open," the statement reads.

"We would like to clarify that while we are exploring every possibility around the US Open, the potential to shift the event location or date is not at the forefront at this point in time."

While that may be true, it's worth noting that the Indian Wells Tennis Garden could serve as the host site.

Home to the BNP Paribas Open every March, Indian Wells is widely regarded as a favorite amongst players and fans. Dubbed the unofficial 5th major, it is one of the premier stops on tour every year.

Then again, so is the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Arthur Ashe Stadium, the featured venue on site, is the largest tennis stadium in the world, with a maximum capacity of 23,771.

For what it's worth, the Indian Wells tennis garden has the 2nd largest tennis stadium, boasting a state-of-the-art facility with a 16,100-seat stadium on site.

According to the US Open website, a decision should come by next month.

"At this moment, our target date for a decision regarding the status of the US Open is six to eight weeks away (mid-June). We will continue to provide updates as appropriate."

Nothing has been finalized or been made official on this story. It is simply a possibility and potential plan in a time when everything is fluid and there are more questions than answers.
