Student Athlete of the Week – Miranda Salcedo
"Come on Miranda lets go, lets go!"
That is Shadow Hills cross country head coach Richie DeTamble encouraging their senior powerhouse. Miranda Salcedo has waited her turn to take over the one spot for the Knights.
"Miranda is one of those that doesn't ask questions and just puts in the work. Well, when I say she does ask questions, she doesn't question what we're telling her to do," said DeTamble. "She wakes up early. She sends me her mileage in the morning she does all the little things that you have to do in the sport to get to the next level. If you want to be average, you're going to come to practice every day. If you want to be extraordinary, you do everything else that you need to do."
"This team is definitely like a second family to me. I love them all so much." said Salcedo. "And it's something that I look forward to every day coming to practice and seeing them all."
What do you think about when you're running?
"I think about getting to the destination," said Salcedo.
Tunnel vision! Miranda won the first DEL cross country meet of the year and is the epitome of leads by example.
"We didn't name captains this year. We have leaders and she is our leader," said DeTamble.
Describe to me Miranda, not the runner.
"Miranda is one of those people that just walks around and gives you a smile," said DeTamble. "Says hi to you every single time. You don't have to know her to like her because she she's just very friendly. She's 4.5 student athlete. She's just a great overall human being."
