Firebirds sign Kansas City Mavericks standout Jack Randl

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) – The Coachella Valley Firebirds announced on Thursday, they have signed forward Jack Randl to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Randl joins the Firebirds after spending last season with the team's ECHL affiliate, the Kansas City Mavericks. The 26-year-old recorded professional career highs with the Mavericks, with 49 points (23 goals, 26 assists) while playing in all 72 regular season games.

Randl helped the Mavericks win the Brabham Cup as the ECHL's regular season champion before advancing to the Kelly Cup Final. He earned ECHL Player of the Week honors twice during the regular season. He also notched 16 points (four goals and 12 assists) in the postseason.

This is not Randl's AHL debut, as he played 31 career regular season games with the league's Bridgeport Islanders. In his time with the Islanders, he recorded one goal and five assists.

Prior to his professional career, the Carpentersville, IL native spent five collegiate seasons between the University of Nebraska Omaha and the University of Michigan.

Randl was an alternate captain in each of his last two seasons at Omaha, and recored 94 career points in 160 NCAA games. His standout nature began even before the collegiate level, as he totaled 100 points in 158 USHL games during his time as a team captain for the United States Hockey League's Omaha Landers.

The Firebirds are set to host a preseason matchup against the Ontario Reign, Sunday, September 27 at 5 p.m. Their season officially starts just five days later, on October 2 at 7 p.m., facing the Reign once again.
