Lakers Legend James Worthy visits Acrisure Arena ahead of Coachella Valley Lakers’ inaugural season

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) -- Los Angeles Lakers legend and Basketball Hall of Famer James Worthy visited Acrisure Arena on Thursday for a town hall and question-and-answer session ahead of the Coachella Valley Lakers' inaugural season.

Worthy, a three-time NBA champion and one of the most recognizable players in Lakers history, discussed the growth of the NBA G League and the opportunities it provides for player development.

During his playing career, the NBA's minor league system was the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). Worthy said the G League has taken player development to another level, offering opportunities that weren't available during his time in the league.

The Lakers legend also sees tremendous potential for the Coachella Valley Lakers, both for the Los Angeles organization and the local community.

Worthy encouraged the team to embrace the desert and become involved with the community, emphasizing the support it can expect in return.

"The message I have for the team coming down here is you're going to get a lot of support, great citizens, great support, great environment, community," Worthy said. "Get involved. Get involved with the community. It's going to be nice for them to engage in some of that, whatever it is. And, you know, that's the support that they will get in return."

The Coachella Valley Lakers will tip off their inaugural season in the desert next Friday, Nov. 6, at Acrisure Arena.
