Palm Springs boys water polo lone local team to win first round playoff game

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) -- Palm Springs boys water polo is moving on in the CIF Southern Section playoffs after earning an 8-7 first-round victory over Cerritos on Thursday.

The Indians were the only one of four local teams to host a first-round playoff game, and they made the most of their home pool advantage.

According to head coach Michael Marks, Palm Springs had not hosted a home CIF playoff game since 2018, the same year as the program's last playoff victory.

The Indians held on for the 8-7 win, ending their playoff victory drought and advancing to the next round.

Palm Springs was the lone local team to win its first-round matchup.

Desert Empire League champion Xavier Prep fell 14-12 on the road at Troy, Palm Desert lost 16-14 at Aquinas and La Quinta was defeated 13-9 at Arlington.
