KESQ

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) The Coachella Valley High School Lady Arabs girls soccer team will be celebrated Saturday with a "Key to the City'' presentation in honor of the squad's Division 5 championship.

"This city of Coachella is proud to present the Key to the City to the remarkable Lady Arabs, whose dedication, hard work and team spirit have made the entire community proud,'' Coachella Mayor Dr. Frank Figueroa said in a statement. "This honor reflects the heart, resilience and strength these young women bring to Coachella each and every day."

The celebration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Veterans' Memorial Park.

After winning 17 regular-season games and advancing to the California Interscholastic Federation championship, the Lady Arabs won the CIF Division 5 championship with a 3-1 victory against San Jacinto on March 7, and placed second in the state.

The players, coaches and their families will be honored with a catered dinner, and community members in attendance will receive light refreshments, appetizers and pom-poms to cheer on the team, officials said.
