Student Athlete of the Week – Cashton Scott

Desert Christian Academy running back Cashton Scott is this week's student-athlete of the week.

Every time Cashton Scott gets the ball, he cashes in for six, but he's never played for the recognition he's always wanted to give glory to the man above every time he steps onto the field.

"I try to play the same no matter who's watching," Scott said. "I play for God. The only person in the stands is how I like to think of it."

While Cashton Scott might be a great student-athlete, he comes from a family of excellence: his mom, Debbie Scott, won 5 CIF titles as the DCA girls' volleyball head coach, and Cashton not only wants to live up to his family's legacy but also cement his own.

"Her name is actually on the volleyball court in the gym, so to see cool things like that, I want to be a part of stuff like that," Scott said. "I want to see my name up on the banner in the gym, and it'll be cool to see."

Debbie is always on the move, serving as coach and the co-head of the school, but she'll do whatever it takes to see her son play under the Friday night lights.

"It's definitely a balancing act," Cashton's mother, Debbee Scott, said. "We've been doing it for a few years with our four sons, who are all very athletic, and we have to make sure there are no volleyball games on Friday nights. That's the goal."

Even though Cashton and Debbee are involved in different sports at DCA, Cashton has used his mom's support and advice to raise his game to the next level.

"She always teaches me to just stay calm and focused no matter what the other team's doing, no matter how loud the fans are, just to stay focused and play my game," Scott said.

It's only the first season for head coach Johnson on DCA's football team, but he's been around the program for a long time, and seeing Scott grow in such a short time has set a standard for those following in his footsteps.

"Cashton doesn't talk a lot, man, but when he puts those pads on, he takes care of business," Conquerors head coach Chris Johnson said. "Inside the classroom, he leads by example. 3.8 student, you know, amazing kid, doesn't get in trouble, so he leads by example, and, you gotta love that, you know what I mean, he lives what he walks."

We are always looking for Student-Athlete of the Week nominations. If you know a senior who should be featured next, be sure to contact the KESQ sports department.
