February Coachella Valley Spotlight recipient: Drone Flyers Academy

This month's Coachella Valley Spotlight recipient is the local nonprofit Drone Flyers Academy.

The organization's mission is to help underserved communities, and people create exciting and rewarding careers in the growing professional field of drone piloting by providing education and workforce training. Some of those careers include real-estate drone photography to flying AI passenger-carrying drones.

Drone Flyers Academy provides hands-on flight training to its students. This includes providing students with safety gear, including helmets and vests. Each student also receives a practice drone to take home with them, equipped with a camera and extra batteries so they can continue practicing the lessons learned in class.

The curriculum includes several introductory flight courses to advanced flight cinematography and security.

Reaching more students requires additional professional FAA Certified Flight Instructors. So Drone Flyers Academy plans to use the $25,000 grant to help support and expand the program to meet its demand.
