First Alert Weather Alert: Gusty & Dusty Conditions Continuing Poor Air Quality Across the Valley

Warm, breezy and dusty conditions continue with winds continuing to be a big talker today and tomorrow. We're still under a First Alert Weather Alert until 7pm Friday for strong winds, blowing dust and reduced visibility across the Coachella Valley.

We've had a little bit of a lull in the winds this afternoon and improving air quality, as expected, but winds strengthen as we head into the early evening. Right now air quality is "moderate" for most across the Coachella Valley, but we're already seeing a few spots listed as "hazardous".

Our strongest winds today will continue for our E-W passes, along with Whitewater, Desert Hot Springs and La Quinta could see some increasing gusts as well.

Several of our road closures continue.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has cancelled our Air Quality Alert for now. We'll see if they end up reinstating that this evening.

We'll cool a bit more into Friday, returning back to seasonal in the low 80s. Winds will continue to remain breezy to gusty, especially in the passes and high desert.

Our weekend looks fairly similar to Friday, however winds do improve Saturday, remaining primarily in the mountains.
We start to see a bit of a shift in the weather pattern by mid next week. Right now, a series of storms pushing to the PNW will keep our slightly cooler and breezier weather pattern continuing, however the ridge just to the south of us could have some impact.

If these series of troughs to our north push a little further south there's an opportunity for maybe some light showers west of the mountains Tuesday through Thursday.

For now, the biggest impact from these systems to the north will be slightly cooler temps and windier weather.
