Warm weekend leading up to next week’s heat wave

Temperatures are set to reach slightly above the seasonal average (107°) this weekend as a ridge of high pressure expands. This weekend's heat risk is "moderate"; a good reminder to practice heat safety if you're planning to spend time outdoors.

A warming trend will continue into the beginning of next week as temperatures rise well into the one-teens. Monday and Tuesday are expected to be the hottest day of the week, which is when the heat risk moves into the "major" category.

The National Weather Service has called an Excessive Heat Warning for the Coachella Valley from 10 a.m. Monday through 8 p.m. Tuesday in advance of the heat wave.

Temperatures will be quick to cool as more monsoonal moisture moves in by the end of next week. Cooler temperatures and increased thunderstorm chances are expected by next Thursday and Friday.
