Staying above normal

The normal for Palm Springs this time of year is 81° and temperatures are well above our normal for this time of year. The reason we are seeing above normal temperatures is due to an area of high pressure to the north west. For Southern California we are seeing temperatures up to 15° warmer than normal.

Warmer than normal temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend. An area of high pressure to the north and low pressure to the south creates something called a "Rex Block" Its shape is an S figure and the high pressure stays over Southern California keeping temperatures warmer than normal through most of the weekend before that weak area of low pressure slowly allows for some cooling for the region by Sunday.

Winds will be a little bit breezy for our more wind prone spots with an offshore flow. This will elevate fire danger with above normal conditions, dry air, and easterly winds.

Overall, temperatures will stay above normal with some relief by the end of next week. Temperatures will look closer to normal reaching into Thursday.
