Clouds Gradually Clearing, Windy Transition Mid Week

Cloud cover will linger into Wednesday as a cutoff low pressure system passes well to our west and south, with little to no rainfall expected in the Coachella Valley. Maybe a few lingering showers for San Diego County--but limited even for them. Very slight chance for the Coachella Valley.

Our main weather impact will be wind, as gusty west to northwest winds start developing Wednesday evening into Thursday, with the strongest gusts along the mountain slopes and into the desert. Winds may be strong at times, especially late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Here in the Coachella Valley I think winds (from this even) will be strongest Thursday morning.

By Thursday afternoon and evening, Santa Ana winds will quickly develop, becoming more pronounced on Friday and continuing through the weekend.

A High Wind Watch is in place for the mountains, passes and desert slopes. Desert Hot Springs is included in that Watch. A Wind Advisory is in place for the Coachella Valley from 8pm Wednesday to1pm Thursday due to those gusty winds. Then our flow shifts and we start seeing the Santa Anas.

This offshore changeup will bring mostly clear skies and warmer daytime temperatures, with highs climbing into the lower 70s by the weekend. Despite the warmer days, cold overnight temperatures are still expected, with lows falling into the lower 40s early Saturday morning.
