Extreme Heat Continues, But Humidity is Stealing the Show

High temperatures aren't changing much through the weekend, with afternoon highs continuing in the lower to middle one-teens under an Extreme Heat Warning now in effect through Sunday evening. While temperatures remain dangerously hot, it's really the added monsoonal moisture that's stealing the show and making conditions feel uncomfortable and sticky with dew points lingering in the 60s to lower 70s at times.

The Coachella Valley is expected to stay dry, but a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms continuing over the mountains through the weekend. We've already seen a few of these storms firing up around Anza this afternoon. Those storm chances become a little more widespread Sunday into Monday as monsoonal moisture peaks across Southern California.

The good news? Relief is finally on the horizon. Sorta. Temperatures start to ease a few degrees early next week, gradually returning us closer to our seasonal average of around 109 degrees by the middle of the week. It's not a dramatic cooldown, but after several days of dangerous heat, every degree will help.
