Tropical Moisture Keeping it Muggy for Monday, Labor Day

Happy Monday! Leftover Labor Day tropical moisture is still hanging around the valley today, keeping us very muggy with plenty of clouds and a chance for scattered light rain through the afternoon. An isolated thunderstorm or two can’t be ruled out, but most rainfall will remain pretty light and spotty.

Our pattern begins to improve as clouds thin and sunshine returns Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing temperatures tov climb quickly—with highs about 5–10 degrees above normal and unusually warm overnight lows equally very little relief. The hottest stretch for the lower desert arrives Wednesday through Friday, bringing widespread moderate to locally major HeatRisk. In fact, the National Weather Service has issued another Extreme Heat Warning starts 10am Wednesday through 8pm Friday.

High pressure strengthens Thursday and Friday, limiting our storm chances but keeping the heat and humidity around. Some relief should finally arrive this weekend as temperatures gradually trend cooler, although there’s still some uncertainty over just how quickly that cooldown moves in.
