Temperatures remain hot but cooling has begun

The ridge of high pressure that's been with us since last week remains a huge influence over the desert southwest's weather. This ridge is slowly being nudged east and temperatures will subtly cool into the weekend.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. tonight across the Coachella Valley.

Afternoons, while remaining about the average of 89°, will be more tolerable for early May in the 90s for the weekend ahead.
