Gradual warming to continue ahead of Excessive Heat Watch

The dominant ridge of high pressure which we have felt for a while now has moved off to the east for the time being. This has brought much of the monsoonal moisture toward the east as well. In its wake, dry air has begun to move into Southern California.

We are tracking an increase in daily high temperatures in the days ahead. This can partly be attributed to the decrease in moisture. Less moisture means less clouds which help to reflect solar radiation upwards and keep the heat off of the surface. In anticipation of the heat, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch.

Temperatures will continue to rise into the weekend. Next week will likely see a slight increase in moisture. This will help to keep temperature for the start of next week closer to the seasonal average.
