In-Depth: Race for Governor

Xavier Becerra / KPIX | CBS NEWS BAY AREA

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - California voters will choose a new governor next month as Gavin Newsom completes his second term in office and is term-limited out.

News Channel 3 has caught up with the two men who want to replace him. Democrat Xavier Becerra visited the Coachella Valley this past weekend, and republican Steve Hilton came to our studios for an interview with News Channel 3 anchor John White.

An independent political analyst, Chad Mayes, says he believes the national trend will matter here in California.

"This election is going to be nationalized. It's not about what's going on with policies here in California. It's us versus them. It's Democrats versus Republicans. It's Democrats standing up to Trump back in Washington, D.C.," Mayes said.

Tonight, all new at 6, John White goes in-depth on the race for governor and what's at stake.
