Local church raises thousands for Mexico earthquake victims
The frantic search for survivors continues three days after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake rattled Mexico City.
Now, a local church is partnering up with churches in Mexico to provide help.
Father Arturo Quezada is the man behind this effort, raising thousands of dollars for earthquake victims. After hearing about the devastation, he decided his church needed to step in.
“The first reaction was concern, because of my family,” Quezada said.
He said his family works in Mexico City and he’s thankful they’re OK.
“Thank God they are fine and they are helping many people there,” Quezada said.
His church, Our Lady of Soledad, started collecting money this week. In just two days, they’ve raised $4,000.
“Members of this retreat center have responded with generosity of donations of money and food and different things. We believe can be useful to those people now,” Quezada said.
His church is partnering with San Martin Obispo de Tours in Iztapalapa Mexico, donating the money through them.
“Today, I went to the bank to transfer the first donations that we’ve received to one parish in Iztapalapa in the west side of Mexico City,” Quezada said.
As the search for survivors continues, Quezada is praying for all the families impacted by this devastating earthquake.
