Firebirds practicing at Acrisure Arena, settling in to new home here in Coachella Valley
The Coachella Valley Firebirds AHL hockey team are finally skating on home ice.
The team and coaches held their first practice on Tuesday at the Berger Foundation Community Iceplex, part of Acrisure Arena.
While the main arena is still under construction in Thousand Palms, the practice area is ready for the team. It is not open to the public at this point.
News Channel 3 is at the arena today to capture the action and talk with the players. Watch News Channel 3 at 5:00, and 6:00 tonight for live coverage.
The team arrived at the Palm Springs International Airport on Sunday night. It was the first time in franchise history that the team landed together in Palm Springs.
The Firebirds are 5-3 on the season.

They are gearing up to play the Abbotsford Canucks in British Columbia at 7 p.m. Friday.
The team's first home game at Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 18 against the Tucson Roadrunners. That game will be broadcast on Fox Palm Springs as part of News Channel 3's partnership with the team.
The team's home ice for games is still being completed inside Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms.
