College of the Desert – Updated West Valley Campus plans revealed

The Palm Springs Development Project Team is moving forward with their updated plans for the campus. These plans paint a picture of what the campus could look like.

The development of the new campus is still in phase one.

Wednesday, the Palm Spring Development Project presented site plans, floor plans, and renderings for the new campus.

The latest schematic design for the Palm Springs campus, which is now 90 percent complete, includes some changes based on public feedback from the last meeting.

According to Robert Rauscher, the MAAS Companies Project Manager for the Palm Springs Development Project, students will have access to labs at The Center for Excellence for Healthcare.

“You will see a couple of science labs to support our healthcare education,” said Rauscher.

The plans for the Events Center and Culinary Institute have also been updated.

“The Culinary Institute has had a slight modification to allow table seating that will be useful for people actually coming in dining… you will see a bakery and pastry kitchen, which is obviously integral to the culinary program and a major part of modern culinary instruction," Rauscher said.

The placement of the Events Center and Culinary Institute has also changed. In the latest design, the Events Center and Culinary Institute is relocated to Tahquitz and Farrell in the place of the recently removed Learning Hotel.

A final plan will be presented by June 14 before it is sent to the state for approval.
