Celebrating Fourth of July weekend in dangerous triple digit heat

It's a hot start to the holiday weekend, and a First Alert Weather Alert has been issued through Monday as we experience dangerous temperatures in the one teens. You can find the latest forecast here.

Helena Mayer who's visiting Palm Springs for her Bachelorette party says, "I just knew with AC you know, with modern technology we'd be fine but it definitely got pretty toasty."

The valley floor isn't the safest place to hike during this time of year with temperatures already nearing 100 degrees by 9 a.m.

Mount San Jacinto State Park just up the tram however, is a much cooler spot.

"I mean it's 70 degrees up there versus105 right now so I feel like that's a no brainer, and it's just beautiful to begin with. So it's just a win, win!" says Mayer.

The relief at the top of the mountain, drew dozens of visitors like Ryan Western and Annie Kelly who are visiting from Los Angeles.

"Cooler temperatures, yeah, that's part of the reason why we chose today because I guess today is going to be the hottest day of the weekend. So we figured it was a good time to get out of the heat direct heat a little bit," says Kelly.

They say visiting the Coachella Valley during the hot Summer months has its perks!

"We love Palm Springs. Even though it gets really hot, it's a dry heat. It's not anything to be afraid of. So we're really excited. And no crowds which is really nice," says Western.
