La Quinta says Hilary’s aftermath cleanup is underway
La Quinta is cleaning up the mess left behind following Hilary. The mayor says they are in good shape compared to other valley cities.
"I'm proud to say that at this point, there's only three road closures right now still in La Quinta," says the Mayor of La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans. "Of course, the dune palms bridge, that will be closed for probably a number of days; we've got the low water crossing at Washington and 50th that heads into the sportsplex and the Truman Elementary and La Quinta Middle School at Park Avenue and River drive. So that's closed right now. We are pumping water out."
Mayor Evans shared this photo of a sinkhole off Monroe Avenue between 58th and 59th.
You might see traffic and another site where a sinkhole is being assessed on Washington at Fred waring. This second hole is on the side of Indian Wells, but if you are driving into La Quinta, you might experience a little traffic as only one lane is going southbound on Washington.
We just learned from the Mayor the Monroe traffic is being rerouted to Madison, then back around Monroe and 60th.
Both sinkholes are deep, and at the moment, we do not have a completion date. Until then, the city urges you to drive cautiously as they are working to clear roads.
