According to the city, the road, which was severely damaged by flooding from Tropical Storm Hilary, could reopen to “emergency access” as soon as next week.
Indian Canyon Drive is a major access road leading to Desert Regional Medical Center, the West Valley’s only hospital and trauma center.
To prevent further delays during emergency situations, the city is pushing to open the road as soon as possible, barring any adverse weather conditions.
The council did not state when the road will reopen to the public during Tuesday night's meeting.
Lack of public access could mean continued travel issues for drivers.
News Channel 3’s Tatum Larsen is in the process of speaking with drivers in Desert Hot Springs for their reaction to the road's potential limited reopening.
