‘Drag Now, Drag Forever’ is the theme of the 2023 Palm Springs Pride

Greater Palm Springs Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride officials are responding to conservative state lawmakers as they are advancing and passing bills that aim toward drag performers. This year's pride theme is 'Drag Now, Drag Forever'.

A federal judge in September struck down a Texas law that LGBTQ advocates feared would ban drag shows in the state and imprison performers. In April, Alabama Republicans filed legislation prohibiting drag performances in public places where children are present. The measure would be an amendment to the state's Anti-Obscenity Enforcement Act. The list continues, and although people can perform freely in California, Palm Springs Pride officials are taking a political stance.

Advocates fear bills and measures surfacing across the country are placing restrictions on LGBTQ+ expression.
