Cabazon Indio Pow wow weekend

The 40th annual Cabazon Indio Pow Wow is a celebration with Native American dance contests for all ages, bird singing, and drum contests. Various traditional Native American food, hand-crafted jewelry, dream catchers, and other arts and crafts will also be available.

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians keeps cultural traditions alive by holding annual powwows. "It's a celebration of our way of life," says a fancy dancer, John Brady. "We're very fortunate today, we still can utilize our way of life to song and dance in our culture, and have a good time Celebration."

Pow wow goers are saying you don't want to miss the chance of trying an Indian Taco. News Channel 3 spoke with one of the vendors, he says he couldn't tell us his aunties secrets. "We make fried bread, tortillas, tacos, Indian tacos, and this food was introduced to us, says one of Jenny's Cauhilla Indian taco chefs, Anthony Chapparosa. "So it's become a traditional food over time. And now we just been making that for many different gatherings and ceremonies."
