We have an egg! Jackie the bald eagle has laid her first egg of the season at the Big Bear nest.
Jackie laid her egg just before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

"Jackie’s egg-laying process took only about 6 minutes from the time she stood up in the nest bowl until the moment the egg appeared. As the egg pushes through her, her back hunches up and all of her feathers stand up…and Jackie emits little teakettle sounds of the work involved in pushing the egg through," reads a post by the Friends of Big Bear Valley.
Last year, Jackie laid her first egg on Jan. 11. She ended up laying two eggs in total, but unfortunately neither ended up hatching.
She had better luck in 2022. She laid her first egg on Jan. 24 and it ended up hatching on March 2.
Eagle eggs typically incubate for about 35 days, officials said.
We're all rooting for a repeat of 2022.
