Learn how to maximize your spring garden beauty this season
Local valley nurseries are sharing ways to keep your spring gardens healthy and beautiful all Spring.
The birds are chirping, and the super bloom beautifies the Coachella Valley with colorful flowers. Moon Valley Nurseries general manager Austin Purdy walks the grounds with staff, showing us the most common flowers in the valley.
"Anything that I grow here( Moon Valley), bougainvillea, Arizona yellow bells honey suckles, we try to stick to this desert palette," says Purdy.
Purdy says the heat takes a toll on some of the flowers we see during the bloom, but there are ways to tend to your gardens this season."The pre-existing plants that you have in your yard, it is time to fertilize all those; you can up the water on the new plants if you're going to be planting the Spring; don't fertilize; use a soil conditioner; it will help the trans the plants go through transplant shock ease here and balance out the minerals in the soil," says Purdy.
Experts at Moon Valley tell us that we should expect this beautiful super bloom to last until the summer. "We do try and be mindful to bring things in that will survive through our hot summer," says Purdy.
Purdy says the superbloom is an exciting time for the valley.
This time of the year, you will see an increase in bugs, insects, and birds.
"All the pollinators, all the bees and hummingbirds we love," says Purdy. "We like seeing the hummingbirds on their migration pattern."
On the 100-acre lot, Purdy shared that they serve everybody from residential to golf courses. "There's no project too big or too small for us,".
According to the University of California, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, feed the whole garden with a balanced fertilizer in early Spring. Most plants are beginning to grow actively, whether established or newly transplanted, and they all need this ready food supply.
