Rainy weather brings fresh powder to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
Along with the scattered showers on the valley floor Monday came fresh powder atop the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
Many brave visitors bundled up to enjoy everything the tram has to offer. “I was actually hiking to the peak last night. I overnighted on the summit,” said Kyle Eubanks, a hiker from Yucca Valley.
While some first time visitors were surprised by the snowy desert conditions, some took the day off to visit from out of town: “We’re visiting from Yorba Linda. We’ve been waiting for months for some good snow,” said Erika Mayshar, visiting with her family.
Tram representatives tell News Channel 3 there has been significantly less snowfall than last year -- adding that overall, business has been trending down this fiscal year as a result.
But on a day like Monday, the lookout point was packed with people throwing snowballs, taking photos and sledding down the hillside.
If you are planning a trip up the tramway this week, remember to layer up as temperatures are in the 20s and wear water-resistant clothing.
“It’s magnificent...it’s a magical experience honestly,” said Kevin Orozco.
