Brush fire damages three homes in Cabazon, firefighter and two people injured

A raging brush fire has set ablaze three homes and seven vehicles as well as injuring three people in Cabazon Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported just after 1 p.m. near the area of Date Avenue and Lemon Street, Cal Fire confirmed. It was fully contained by 4:30 p.m.

Authorities said evacuations are in progress.

One firefighter and two people were injured, a News Channel 3 crew confirmed at the scene. The firefighter and a person suffered moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital.

The fire caused a power outage in the area. According to CAL FIRE, power will be out for approximately four-to-six hours.

A cooling center has been established at Nicolet Middle School, located at 101 E. Nicolet Street in Banning.

Palm Springs Fire has been requested for assistance.
