Jacob Melanson’s overtime goal lifts Firebirds over Wranglers in 5-4 victory

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) --- The Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Calgary Wranglers 5-4 in overtime on Friday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Firebirds trailed 3-1 after the first two periods.

Coachella Valley made some noise in the final frame. Logan Morrison scored once, and Jagger Firkus tallied two goals. Firkus' second goal tied the game at four with 2:32 remaining, which would be the final goal of regulation.

Jacob Melanson found the back of the net only 44 seconds into the extra frame of play.

Nikke Kokko and Victor Ostman played in the net for CV. Kokko had 13, and Ostman had 20 saves.

The Firebirds improve to 2-2-1-0 on the season. Coachella Valley will remain on the road and play the Calgary Wranglers on Saturday, October 25th. Puck drop is at 5 PM.
