Pool Party at Palm Springs Surf Club raises money for shelter pets

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Hundreds of people gathered at the Palm Springs Surf Club Friday to kick off Memorial Day weekend with music, pool floats, and sunshine — all while supporting a good cause.

The event, hosted by Palm Springs Surf Club, benefited the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.

Guests spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool and enjoying live entertainment, but organizers said the event also highlighted the community’s strong support for local animals in need.

“There’s so many dogs out there that need help,” one attendee said.

According to shelter officials, proceeds from the event will help provide essential care for animals waiting to be adopted, including vaccinations, spay and neuter services, and daily shelter support.

“It’s going to help get animals taken care of as far as vaccines, spay and neuter, and being available for adoptions,” a representative from the animal shelter said.

Organizers with the Surf Club said Palm Springs residents consistently rally around animal welfare efforts, calling the community support invaluable.

While the pool party focused on fun and fundraising, safety officials also used the busy holiday weekend to remind people to stay cautious around the water. Lifeguards encouraged visitors to know their limits, avoid roughhousing, and drink responsibly during celebrations.

Shelter staff also used the opportunity to encourage residents to consider adopting pets currently waiting for homes.

“For the shelter animals, it’s basically we need people to come in, take a look at the animals — adopt, don’t shop,” a shelter representative said.
